Two campus events will benefit area organizations providing services
to people who have AIDS

Members of the Yale community will help raise funds for area AIDS organizations on Tuesday, Dec. 1, which marks World AIDS Day and A Day Without Art.

The School of Art will host its sixth annual Silent Auction in observance of A Day Without Art 4-7 p.m. The items up for bid include drawings, photographs and paintings that have been donated by faculty and students at the school. The event will be held in the main gallery, located on the second floor of the School of Art, 180 York St. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to AIDS service organizations in New Haven. For information on wheelchair access to the event, call 432-2645 in advance.

Now an annual tradition nationwide, A Day Without Art honors the achievement and lives of artists who have died from AIDS. It also serves to promote action and knowledge about how HIV infection is spread, the care of those with the disease and paths to a possible cure.

World AIDS Day will be observed by members of the Yale community 9-11 p.m. during an evening of entertainment, food and prize giveaways at St. Anthony Hall, 483 College St. The event, sponsored by Yale University Health Services and St. Anthony Hall, is a benefit for AIDS Project New Haven and Leeway AIDS Hospice.

The evening will feature music performances by the Professors of Bluegrass, the Slavic Chorus and Ska 'n' Bones, a juggling exhibition by the Yale Anti-Gravity Society, and an art exhibition by GALA (Group for Alliance of Life and Art). Admission (for entry and the raffling of prizes) is $3 in advance and $4 at the door. Participants are invited to stop by anytime between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
