New website to serve as resource
for planning events on campus

The University's Office of New Haven Affairs and Yale Conference Services have joined forces to create an electronic Events Planner on the World Wide Web.

This project is designed to improve communication between individuals throughout the University who are planning events, especially with regard to the demand for hotels and campus facilities, and the need for a centralized calendar for scheduling purposes. The web site also offers a variety of resources for University departments and organizations that would like to hold an event or conference at Yale.

Central to the new web site is the electronic planning calendar, which will be regularly updated and posted by the Office of New Haven Affairs. Data for the calendar will be gathered via a variety of means.

Those who wish to use the website to list their upcoming events are offered databases for Macintosh or Windows computers using FileMaker Pro. Windows users may also use a parallel database created in Microsoft Access 97. Incidental users may simply print an on-line form and fax that to Yale's Office of New Haven Affairs.

Users of the databases will be able to export selected records directly to the database administrator in the Office of New Haven Affairs. The administrator will maintain the centralized database and post it to the Events Planner web site.

Two informational meetings and demonstrations of the Events Planner will be held at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Office of New Haven Affairs, 433 Temple St. Space is limited, so reserve a space by calling 432-8628.

The web address for the Events Planner is www.yale.edu/eventsplanner.
