Area artists invited to participate in second annual 'City-Wide Open Studios' program

Yale is once again one of the sponsors of the "City-Wide Open Studios," a program that offers local artists an opportunity to share their ideas and show their work.

New Haven-area artists are invited to enter the second annual event, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and 30. Entry forms are available at the Yale Visitor Information Center, 149 Elm St.; the Yale Station Post Office, 206 Elm St.; the Greater New Haven Arts Council, 70 Audubon St.; and the Guilford Handcraft Center, 411 Church St. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 26.

During the two days of Open Studios, artists invite the public into their studios. Art students, artist-collaborations and artists from outside Greater New Haven may apply for downtown "alternative" group spaces.

Each participant will have one representative work on display at the main exhibition space in Ninth Square at the Chamberlin Building, corner of Crown and Orange streets. Artworks will be for sale, including the pieces on display at the main exhibition.

Maps showing the location of each studio and alternative space will appear in the Hartford, Fairfield and New Haven editions of The Advocate.

In addition to Yale, this program is made possible through support from The New Haven Advocate, New Haven Savings Bank, The Yale Bookstore, The Abe and Ethel Lapides Foundation, the City of New Haven and the Town Green Special Services District. Alternative spaces are being furnished by Yale's Office of University Properties, Schiavone Management Company, and the Ninth Square Project L.P.
