Conference will examine issues facing
gays and lesbians in the workplace

Gay and lesbian groups at the School of Management and Harvard Business School recently joined forces to organize "From the Closet to the Boardroom," the first-ever Gay & Lesbian Business Conference, which will be held on Saturday, March 27, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Business students from across the country will attend the conference, which will examine issues facing gay men and lesbians in the workplace today and will seek to strengthen ties between gay and lesbian professionals in all sectors of business.

"Though sometimes supportive, business schools can be isolating places for gay and lesbian students," observes conference co-chair James Robertson, a second-year M.B.A. student at Yale. "The conference will create a rare opportunity for students to meet a critical mass of their peers and build the foundation of a powerful social and professional network."

Among the featured speakers at the conference will be Julie Palen, the founder of InterNoded Inc. and one of the 1998 OUT 100, and Walter Schubert, founder of the Gay Financial Network and the first openly gay member of the New York Stock Exchange.

The 1999 Gay & Lesbian Business Conference is being organized by the Gay & Lesbian Students Association at Harvard Business School and Q+: The Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/
Straight Alliance at the School of Management. Eleven of America's top business schools have joined as cosponsors of this event: Wharton, Stanford, Kellogg, Sloan, Tuck, Anderson, Marshall, Kelley, Haas, Chicago, and Columbia.
