Show by Peabody artists among Yale-related events during festival Images of the natural world, as captured by six New Haven area artists, will be on display at the Peabody Museum of Natural History throughout the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, June 18-July 3. The display of 24 paintings and sculptures was originally created for Open Studios 1999, a citywide celebration of local talent held in May. All of the artists work at the Peabody Museum; this is the second year they've mounted a joint show during Open Studios. The featured artists are: Michael Anderson, museum preparator; Torsten Burns, security; Maishe Dickman, exhibit construction; Stuart Lane, project assistant; John Maisano, graphics and exhibition designer; and Ava Orphanoudakis, public education. The Peabody Museum of Natural History, located at 170 Whitney Ave. For information on hours and admission, call 432-5050. Yale people and departments will also be featured at numerous other on- and off-campus programs as part of the International Festival of Arts and Ideas. Off-campus: The University is a major sponsor of the Downtown celebration Saturday and Sunday, June 26 and 27. (See related story.) The Yale University Art Gallery, the Yale Center for British Art, the Peabody Museum and the Yale Children's Dramat will also present activities geared toward children during the Heart of the Matter on the New Haven Green, 1-6 p.m., Friday-Sunday, June 25-27. On campus: The Yale Center for British Art is hosting several special programs in conjunction with its two new exhibitions on World War I. (See related story). Other festival programs on the Yale campus include: the second half of a conference titled "Can Schools Be Better?" (June 26); a conference on "War and Peace in the 20th-Century" (June 23-25); a series of concerts in the courtyard of Jonathan Edwards College (July 1-3); a performance by the Russian Youth Artists Orchestra (June 21); a musical exploration of the music of Paris, London and Venice by the Four Nations Ensemble (June 26, 27 and 29); tours of the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments (June 25 and 28).
