Divinity School event welcomes prospective students
Prospective students hoping to enter the Divinity School in the fall of 2000 will get their chance to peruse the premises when the school opens its doors on Thursday, Nov. 4, for the annual Visitation Day.
Participants may meet with the faculty, current students and administration throughout the day to learn about academic and student life, vocational preparation and resources for scholarship and ministry available through the Divinity Library. Sessions will also address practical topics, such as the admission process, financial aid, housing and life in New Haven.
"Visitation Day allows prospective students to get a feel for YDS as a community, for how we work, study and worship together," said Guy Martin, associate dean of admissions and financial aid. "Although prospective students are welcome to visit the campus at any time of the year, we encourage them to participate in this program not just to introduce them to the School, but to bring them into dialogue with one another. Most prospective students are also considering other divinity schools or seminaries. By coming together on Visitation Day, they can share their journeys. For those who matriculate, these contacts can provide a familiar face at the start of school."
The Visitation Program offers participants the opportunity to attend the School's morning chapel service. "YDS is one of the few university-based schools of theological education that retains the tradition of the daily chapel," added Martin. "While not mandatory for students, faculty or staff, chapel services remind us that it is important to nurture our spiritual health in the midst of work, study and for many students, family responsibilities."
