Workshops promoting collaborative research on women's health issues
Researchers with studies related to women's health will come together at a monthly workshop series to share their topics or findings.
The goal of the workshop series, sponsored by the Yale National Center for Excellence in Women's Health, is to bring investigators together who share an interest in a particular research topic and to provide opportunities to discuss possibilities for collaboration. The workshop series emphasizes clinical implications of research, and clinicians are welcome to attend and participate.
A different topic is presented at each monthly workshop. Issues include osteoporosis, falls and fractures, neurohormonal effects of estrogen, AIDS and women, melanoma and estrogen, women and substance abuse, the use of diagnostic imaging in ovarian cancer screening, and mammography.
The first workshop on Oct. 13 -- led by Mary C. Blehar, director of the Women's Health Program at the National Institute of Mental Health -- raised the issue of mental health funding for women's health research. The presentation was given in conjunction with the Women's Behavioral Health Division.
