A football autographed by NFL linebacker Pepper Johnson and a week's lodging in London are among the items to be auctioned Friday, Nov. 19, noon-2 p.m. at the School of Medicine's Seventh Annual Hunger and Homelessness Auction.
"The purpose is to raise money for area shelters and community organizations," says Dawn Harris, a second-year medical student and spokesperson for the group coordinating the event.
The silent and live auctions last year generated $28,000, which was distributed to the Columbus House Shelter, the Community Soup Kitchen, a home food delivery service for the elderly, St. Thomas Shelter, Life Haven, and Loaves and Fishes.
Other items on the auction block this year are a basketball signed by Houston Rockets center Hakeem Olijawon; dinner with President Richard C. Levin; dinner with Medical School Dean David Kessler; construction of an outdoor shower; tickets to the Metropolitan Opera; and opera lessons, among many other donations.
The auctions will be held in Harkness Auditorium in the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St. For more information, call Hung Nguyen at (203) 562-0042 or Nduka Amandulor at (203) 777-6925.
