Yale affiliates to present talks off campus

A Yale faculty member and University librarian will present talks off campus this week.

Michael Rowe, assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine, will discuss and sign copies of his book "Crossing the Border" at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Yale Bookstore, 77 Broadway. The public is invited.

Rowe is also assistant clinical professor at New Haven Access/Connecticut Mental Health Center. The book recounts his experiences as administrator of a program designed to help New Haven's homeless population -- focusing, in particular, on the gulf between homeless people and the social workers who are trying to help them.

Judith Schiff, chief research archivist in the Yale Library's manuscripts and archives department, will be the final speaker in the fall "Books Sandwiched In" series sponsored by the Friends of the New Haven Free Public Library.

Schiff will discuss "Lindbergh" by A. Scott Berg 12:10-12:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, at the United Church on the Green, corner of Temple and Elm streets.

The series is free and open to the public. Audience members are invited to bring a brown-bag lunch. Coffee, tea and cookies are available in the basement of the church 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m.
