Yale football coach Jack Siedlecki and the Bulldogs have capped their triumphant 1999 season with even more glory.
Siedlecki, who led the team to a 9-1 season record and a tie with Brown for the Ivy League title, has been named New England Sports Writers Coach of the Year.
Now in his third year as the Bulldogs' head coach, Siedlecki guided the team to its best recent season. The Bulldogs had nine straight wins and captured their 13th Ancient Eight title (the team's only loss was its opening game, against Brown), won their second straight Harvard-Yale-Princeton title, and broke 51 school records.
Thirteen Bulldogs players received All-Ivy recognition and four made First-Team All-New England. One was named a National Academic All-American and one made District I Academic All-America.
In a final game that stands out as among the most notable in Yale's history, the Bulldogs beat Harvard by three points (24-21) with only 29 seconds remaining in the game. Over 52,000 football fans witnessed the Yale victory in its home stadium. The game was also broadcast on national television.
