Men's Basketball (4-10, 2-0 Ivy)

Sophomore Onaje Woodbine (Boston, MA) scored five of his game-high 26 points in the second overtime as Yale edged Dartmouth 71-69 on Jan. 15 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. Junior Neil Yanke (Akron, OH) and freshman Chris Leanza (Parma, OH) both added 12 points for the Bulldogs, who are 2-0 in the Ivy League for the first time since the 1992-93 season.

On Jan. 14 Yale topped Harvard 69-61. Woodbine scored 28 points and had seven rebounds, both career highs. Senior Jason Williams (Louisville, KY) made his first start of the season and scored a career-high 14 points. The Bulldogs led 32-26 at halftime and built the lead to as many as 13 points in the second half.

Yale hosts Brown on Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The game will be televised live nationally on DirecTV Channel 611. Viewers must be DirecTV subscribers and have access to the gold or platinum package.


Women's Basketball (2-10, 0-2 Ivy)

The Bulldogs opened Ivy League play with a 93-77 loss at Harvard on Jan. 14. Freshman Maria Smear (Annapolis, MD) scored 20 points to pace Yale, while junior Lily Glick (Cleburne, TX) added 15 points and six rebounds.

On Jan. 15 the Bulldogs dropped an 80-63 decision at Dartmouth. Smear scored a team-high 18 points, junior Alyson Miller (Skokie, IL) added 12 points and senior Kelly Denit (Burtonsville, MD) had nine assists.

Yale is at Stony Brook on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. and then hosts Brown on Jan. 22 at 2 p.m.


Men's Fencing (4-0, 0-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs remained undefeated with a pair of victories on Jan. 15 in Payne Whitney Gym. Yale beat Rutgers 20-7 and Vassar 19-8. Against Rutgers the epee team won 8-1, and against Vassar the sabre squad won 9-0. Sophomore Luke Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) and senior David Rosenberg (Scotch Plains, NJ) both went undefeated in the sabre against Vassar.

The Bulldogs are off until a Jan. 25 bout at Brandeis at 7 p.m.


Women's Fencing (4-0, 1-0 Ivy)

Yale cruised to a 17-10 victory over Rutgers and a 22-5 win over Vassar on Jan. 15 at Payne Whitney Gym. The foil squad went a perfect 18-0 in the two matches. Seniors Esperance Schaefer (New York, NY), Hannah Appel (San Francisco, CA) and Sarah Weeks (Skillman, NJ) were undefeated in the foil against Rutgers.

The Bulldogs are at Brandeis on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.


Gymnastics (0-1, 0-0 Ivy)

Yale opened the season with a 191.325-183.675 loss to Rhode Island on Jan. 16 in Kingston, R.I. Freshman Shoshanna Engel (Louisville, KY) had the Bulldogs top all-around score (36.800). Freshman Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) had a 36.775 all-around score.

Yale hosts Vermont on Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.


Men's Hockey (7-6-2, 5-3-2 ECAC, 3-2-1 Ivy)

The Bulldogs fell to 11th-ranked Boston College 3-1 on Jan. 16 before a sellout crowd of 3,486 at Ingalls Rink. Senior Jay Quenville (Malone, NY) scored Yale's only goal in the first period. Sophomore Dan Lombard (Andover, MA) made 33 saves in goal.

Yale hosts Army on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Ingalls Rink and then travels to Boston University on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live in the New Haven area on WYBC (1340 AM). Coverage also is available on the internet atwww.broadcast.com/radio/college/wybcam.


Women's Hockey (3-12, 1-11 ECAC, 0-6 Ivy)

Junior Lisa Meyers (Skokie, IL) and freshman Karin Tilly (Oxford, MI) both scored twice as the Bulldogs cruised to a 5-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Jan. 16 in a non-league game at Ingalls Rink. Senior Sue Barnes (London, ONT) also scored, and sophomore Sara Wood (Randolph, MA) added five assists. Sophomore Katie Hirte (Cottage Grove, MN) made 15 saves to post the shutout in goal.

Yale plays at Niagara on Jan. 22 and 23. Both games begin at 3 p.m.


Men's Squash (3-0, 1-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs, ranked fourth nationally, topped fifth-ranked Williams 6-3 on Jan. 14 in Payne Whitney Gym. Yale lost the top three positions but won the bottom six. Winners for the Bulldogs were juniors Blake Gilpin (Milton, MA), Josh Barenbaum (Philadelphia, PA) and Fred Bouchardy (New York, NY), sophomore Chris Olsen (Loveland, OH) and freshmen Aftab Mathur (Mumbai, India) and Ziad Haider (Karachi, Pakistan).

Yale hosts Trinity on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. and Hamilton (10 a.m.), Cornell (noon) and Colby (4 p.m.) on Jan. 22. On Jan. 23 the Bulldogs host Dartmouth at 11 a.m. and Bates at 1 p.m.


Women's Squash (4-1, 0-1 Ivy)

Yale blanked Amherst 9-0 on Jan. 12 in Payne Whitney Gym. The Bulldogs won all nine matches 3-0, including senior Loren Smith (Rye, NY) at the No. 1 position.

Yale also won a pair of matches at the Williams Invitational, topping Bowdoin 6-3 on Jan. 14 and Colby 9-0 on Jan. 15. Junior Catherine Fiederowicz (Woodbury, CT) was a 3-0 winner at the No. 2 position against Bowdoin.

Yale hosts Trinity on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. and Hamilton (10 a.m.), Cornell (noon) and Colby (4 p.m.) on Jan. 22. On Jan. 23 the Bulldogs host Dartmouth at 11 a.m.


Men's Swimming (5-0, 3-0 EISL, 1-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs topped Cornell 168-75 and Navy 125-118 on Jan. 15 in Ithaca, N.Y. Double winners for Yale were sophomore Mike Schulte (Wellesley, MA) in the 500 (4:37.39) and 1000 (9:31.17) freestyle and senior Stephen Fahy (Paget, Bermuda) in the 200 IM (1:52.65) and the 200 butterfly (1:52.52).

Yale hosts Lehigh on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m.


Women's Swimming (3-1-1, 1-0-1 Ivy)

Sophomore Emily Grant (New York, NY) won both 50 and 100 freestyles as the Bulldogs edged Cornell 164-131 on Jan. 16 at Kiphuth Pool. Other winners for Yale were seniors Shannon Mulcahy (Brookfield, CT) in the 200 butterfly and Lindsay Wolter (Springfield, MO) in the 200 backstroke, junior Shannon Dunlap (Mayfield Heights, OH) in the 1-meter diving, sophomore Linda Tivorsak (Atchison, KS) in the 200 IM and freshmen Kim Richardson (Wilton, CT) in the 1000 freestyle, Heidi Kraus (Irvine, CA) in the 200 freestyle and Susan Cooke (Vero Beach, FL) in the 100 breaststroke.

The Bulldogs host Lehigh on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m.


Men's Track

Senior Brian Yates (Hanover, NH) captured the shot put with a throw of 52' 4.50" at the New York Sports Museum Armory Invitational on Jan. 15 in New York City. In addition, junior Rob Doyle (Chicago, IL) was second in the 3000 run (8:21.73), freshman Anthony Thomas (Bethel, CT) was third in the long jump (23' 1.75") and junior Ryan Barrows (York, NE) was fifth in the 800 run (1:53.83).

Yale is at the Terrier Cup at Boston University on Jan. 21.


Women's Track

Yale had several fine performances at the New York Sports Museum Armory Invitational on Jan. 15 in New York City. In the long jump, junior Jennifer Newsom (Golden Valley, MN) was second with a leap of 18' 6.5" and junior Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu (Chestnut Hill, MA) placed fifth with a jump of 17' 6". In the mile run junior Katie Rigney (Carmel, CA) was fourth with a time of 5:06.35.

The Bulldogs are at the New England Challenge Cup on Jan. 22.
