Lamb to lead Bulldogs field hockey team 'to the next level'
Ainslee Press-Lamb, an assistant field hockey coach at Yale for the last three years, has been appointed the Bulldogs' head coach, Athletic Director Tom Beckett has announced.
Lamb replaces Marisa Didio, who has been named Northwestern's head coach.
Lamb has spearheaded Yale's recruiting efforts over the last three years. In 1998 she helped guide the Bulldogs to a school-record 15 wins, a second-place finish in the Ivy League and an ECAC Championship. She came to Yale from the University of Massachusetts, where she served as an assistant coach for three years. During her tenure at UMass, the Minutewomen reached the NCAA Tournament in 1996.
"I am very excited about this opportunity," Lamb said. "There is no other group of young women or athletic department staff that I would want to take this exciting step in my career with. I am looking forward to working hard for Yale to allow this program to continue on the path of success that Marisa Didio has put in motion. The support I have received from Marisa and Tom Beckett has been unbelievable."
In addition to her collegiate coaching, Lamb has been actively involved in the U.S.F.H.A. From 1995 to 1997 she served as a regional administrative director for the Futures program, and in 1995 she assisted in the selection process of top players hoping to attend the Olympic development B-camp. She has also served as coach at national team development B and A camps.
Beckett said, "Ainslee Lamb's experience at Yale in helping to build a competitive and respected program as an assistant coach gives us great confidence in her ability to take the program to the next level. She is a very enthusiastic and talented coach with great experience."
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Lamb was a three-year field hockey letterwinner, helped lead the team to a national championship in 1988 and earned All-Canadian honors three times. She played one year at UMass, where she was a member of the 1992 final four team and was the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. Lamb received her master's degree in sports management from UMass. Prior to college, Lamb was a member of both the 1990 World Cup team and Canadian National team from 1987 to 1992, competing in the Junior World Cup, the Olympic qualifying tournament and two Four Nation Tournaments.
