Dr. Dennis Spencer honored
for his work on epilepsy

Dr. Dennis D. Spencer, the Harvey and Kate Cushing Professor and chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, has won the 1999 Epilepsy Research Award from the American Epilepsy Society and the Milken Family Foundation.

Presented on Dec. 6 at a ceremony in Orlando, Florida, the $50,000 award recognizes Spencer's work over the past 27 years at Yale, during which time the neurosurgeon has made major contributions in research and clinical practice to the treatment of epilepsy. He also pioneered new surgical treatments for the disorder that have been adopted by many medical centers throughout the world. He has authored or coauthored over 150 articles and 50 chapters and is frequently invited to speak at symposia throughout the United States and in other countries.
