Men's Basketball (5-10, 3-0 Ivy)

Sophomore Onaje Woodbine (Boston, MA) hit 6-of-13 shots from the field and finished with a game-high 18 points as Yale cruised to a 67-53 victory over Brown on Jan. 21 before a crowd of 2,112 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater and a national television audience on DirecTV. Senior Ted Smith (New York, NY) and junior Neil Yanke (Akron, OH) both added nine points. Freshman Chris Leanza (Parma, OH) had a career-high eight assists.

The Bulldogs play at Brown on Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. With a win, Yale would improve to 4-0 in the Ivy League for the first time since the 1961-62 Ivy League championship team. Women's Basketball (3-11, 1-2 Ivy)

Freshman Helene Schutrumpf (Boulder, CO) scored a career-high 18 points as Yale topped Brown 67-50 on Jan. 22 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. Junior Alyson Miller (Skokie, IL) added 13 points and 13 rebounds, her first double-double of the season. Senior Kelly Denit (Burtonsville, MD) had seven points, seven assists and four steals.

On Jan. 18 the Bulldogs dropped a 71-57 decision at Stony Brook. Senior Lily Glick (Cleburne, TX) scored 14 points, and sophomore Kate Merker (New York, NY) added 11.

The Bulldogs hosted Hartford on
Jan. 25. Yale then plays at Brown on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. The Brown game can be heard live in the New Haven area on WYBC (1340 AM). Coverage also is available on the internet at www.broadcast.com/radio/college/wybcam.


Men's Fencing (4-0, 0-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs had the week off. Yale had a Jan. 25 bout at Brandeis. On Jan. 29, the Bulldogs take on Pennsylvania and North Carolina in Philadelphia, and on Jan. 30 they host St. John's at noon in Payne Whitney Gym.


Women's Fencing (4-0, 1-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs had the week off to prepare for a match at Brandeis on Jan. 25. Yale then battles Pennsylvania and North Carolina in Philadelphia on Jan. 29 before returning home to host St. John's on Jan. 30 at noon in Payne Whitney Gym.


Gymnastics (1-1, 0-0 Ivy)

In the first home meet of the season at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Jan. 23, the Bulldogs beat Vermont 185.55-179.95. Freshman Shoshanna Engel (Louisville, KY) was the all-around winner, finishing with a score of 39.550.

Yale opens Ivy League play by hosting Pennsylvania on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.


Men's Hockey (8-6-3, 5-3-2 ECAC, 3-2-1 Ivy)

Senior Matt Zamec (Calgary, ALB) made the most of his first career start in goal, stopping 24 shots as Yale beat Army 5-1 on
Jan. 21 at Ingalls Rink. Freshman Evan Wax (Syosset, NY) and sophomore David Sproule (Madison, CT) both scored their first career goals. Junior Ben Stafford (Edina, MN) added three assists.

On Jan. 23 the Bulldogs skated to a 1-1 tie at sixth-ranked Boston University. Freshman Nick Deschenes (Morinville, ALB) scored the tying goal at 18:42 of the third period. Senior Trevor Hanger (Guilford, CT) was outstanding in goal, making 29 saves. Yale is 2-3-1 against nationally ranked opponents.

The Bulldogs return to ECAC action when they host Union on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at Ingalls Rink. The game will be televised live on NESN and also will be broadcast live in the New Haven area on WYBC (1340 AM). The radio coverage also is available on the internet at www.broadcast.com/radio/
college/wybcam. On Jan. 29 Yale hosts RPI at 7 p.m.


Women's Hockey (3-14, 1-13 ECAC, 0-6 Ivy)

Yale dropped a pair of league games at Niagara, 2-0 on Jan. 22 and 5-0 on Jan. 23. Sophomore Katie Hirte (Cottage Grove, MN) had a total of 52 saves in the two games.

The Bulldogs play Boston College at Buckingham, Brown & Nichols on Jan. 29 at 1:30 p.m. and then travel to Dartmouth on Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.


Men's Squash (9-1, 3-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs celebrated the official dedication of the new Brady Squash Center by beating Cornell and Hamilton 9-0 and Colby 8-1 on Jan. 22. Senior Kris Weiner (Brookline, MA) won at No. 1 against both Hamilton and Cornell, while senior Deji Olukotun (Hopewell, NJ) was a winner in the top spot against Colby.

On Jan. 23 Yale cruised to 9-0 victories over Bates and Fordham and beat Dartmouth 8-1.

On Jan. 19 the Bulldogs fell 9-0 to defending national champion Trinity.

Yale played MIT and Tufts on Jan. 26 in Boston and then takes on Navy and Rochester on Jan. 29 in Annapolis, MD.


Women's Squash (8-3, 1-2 Ivy)

With numerous alumni and supporters in town for the official dedication of the Brady Squash Center, Yale won three matches on Jan. 22, 8-1 over both Cornell and Colby and 9-0 over Hamilton. Senior Loren Smith (Rye, NY) won at No. 1 against Hamilton, and freshman Gina Wilkinson (Bloomfield Hills, MI) was victorious in the top spot against Colby.

On Jan. 23 the Bulldogs beat Bates 9-0 but lost to Dartmouth 5-4.

On Jan. 19 Yale dropped a 7-2 decision to Trinity.

The Bulldogs are at the Constable Invitational in Princeton, NJ, on Jan. 28-30.


Men's Swimming
(6-0, 3-0 EISL, 1-0 Ivy)

Junior George Gleason (St. Croix, VI) captured both the 100 and 200 backstroke and senior Tim Moffet (Tiburon, CA) won the 50 and 100 freestyles as Yale beat Lehigh 177-130 on Jan. 22 at Kiphuth Pool. Other winners for the Bulldogs were sophomore Rich Birrer (Locust Valley, NY) in the 3-meter diving, sophomore Mike Schulte (Wellesley, MA) in the 1000 freestyle, senior Chris Bradford (Portage, MI) in the 200 freestyle, junior James Esposito (Howard Beach, NY) in the 100 breaststroke, senior Mike Caperonis (Hillsdale, NJ) in the 200 butterfly, senior Brett Rubin (Columbia, MD) in the 400 IM and sophomore Chris Birrer (Locust Valley, NY) in the 1-meter diving.

The Bulldogs swim against Dartmouth and Pennsylvania on Jan. 29 in Hanover, NH.


Women's Swimming (4-1-1, 1-0-1 Ivy)

Senior Lindsay Wolter (Springfield, IL) and sophomore Emily Grant (New York, NY) were both double winners as the Bulldogs topped Lehigh 170-135 on Jan. 22 at Kiphuth Pool. Wolter captured the 100 backstroke in 58.26 and won the 200 back in 2:04.97. Grant captured the 50 freestyle in 24.32 and the 100 free in 52.91.

Yale swims against Dartmouth and Pennsylvania on Jan. 29 in Hanover, NH.


Men's Track

The Bulldogs captured the Terrier Cup with 92 points on Jan. 21 in Boston. Sophomore Don Carson (Pittsburgh, PA) won the 500 dash with a time of 1:03.80, the fourth best time in school history. Other winners for Yale were junior Ryan Barrows (York, NE) in the 800, senior Joe Racine (Valparaiso, IN) in the 1000 and senior Brian Yates (Hanover, NH) in the shot put.

Yale is at the Northeastern Invitational on Jan. 28 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.


Women's Track

The Bulldogs won the consolation round of the New England Challenge Cup with 191 points on Jan. 22 in Hanover, NH Junior Jennifer Newsom (Golden Valley, MN) finished first in the triple jump (37'7.25") and second in the long jump (18' 5.75"). In addition, senior Cathy Devore (Woodland, TX) won the 400 dash (59.67), senior Dargie Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) captured the 500 dash (1:18) and junior Melanie Harris (New Rochelle, NY) won the weight throw (54' 9.5").

Yale will have participants in the Northeastern Invitational on Jan. 28 and the Terrier Classic at Boston University on
Jan. 29-30.
