Colgate-Palmolive official
to discuss global strategy

Lois D. Juliber, a high-ranking official at Colgate-Palmolive Co., will discuss her company's global strategy during her visit as a guest of the Gordon Grand Fellowship on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Juliber will present a lecture titled "Colgate: The Power of Globalization" at a master's tea at 4 p.m. in Silliman College, 71 Wall St. The talk is free and open to the public.

While on campus, Juliber will also meet informally with students and faculty at the Yale School of Management (SOM). In addition, she will participate in SOM Professor Donald Gibson's "Strategic Human Resource Management" class.

Juliber currently holds the post of executive vice president and chief of operations for developed markets at Colgate-Palmolive. She has led Colgate's businesses since 1988 when she joined Colgate-Palmolive as general manager, and later became president of the company's $800 million Far East/Canada Division. Under her leadership Colgate's businesses in Asia and the Indian subcontinent grew rapidly and the division became one of the company's strongest and most profitable. She also supervised Colgate's entry into China, as well as joint ventures in other newly emerging countries.

In 1992, Juliber was elected a corporate officer and was promoted to chief technological officer of the corporation. In that post she was responsible for directing Colgate's worldwide research and development efforts, and was a driving force behind the company's accelerated new products and activities. In addition, she was responsible for the global manufacturing operations and facilities consolidation efforts, the move to a universal worldwide information technology network, and the company's initiatives in environmental affairs, consumer affairs, and health and safety.

In May 1994, Juliber was promoted to president of Colgate North America, where she was responsible for Colgate businesses in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. There she led a resurgence of Colgate North America, developed a series of successful new products, and dramatically increased profit growth.

In March 1997, Ms. Juliber was promoted to her current post, where she is responsible for all operations in Europe and North America.

Colgate-Palmolive is a leading global consumer products company tightly focused on oral and personal care, fabric and household surface cleaning and pet nutrition. In the United States, the company sells its products under such nationally recognized brand names as Colgate, Palmolive, Mennen, Ajax, Irish Spring, Softsoap, Murphy Oil Soap, Ultra Brite and Fab, as well as Hill's Science Diet and Hill's Prescription Diet pet foods.

Prior to joining Colgate, Juliber worked for 15 years for General Foods Corporation, where she developed and managed new products for such brands as Kool Aid, Post Cereals, Stove Top, Shake 'N' Bake, Good Seasons and Minute Rice.

The Gordon Grand Fellowship at Yale promotes dialogue and understanding between today's business leaders and students at Yale. The fellowship was established in 1973 to honor Gordon Grand, a graduate of the Yale College Class of 1938, and president and chief executive officer of the Olin Corporation. During his lifetime, Grand endeavored to bridge the gap between business and academia by actively promoting the exchange of ideas and viewpoints between these sectors.

Today, the Gordon Grand Fellowship continues this tradition by inviting prominent business leaders to Yale for one- to three-day visits. While staying at a Yale residential colleges, fellows deliver one public lecture, meet informally with faculty and students at a master's tea and at meals, and participate in the academic process.
