New SOM program examines
changing economic landscape

To help students get the most out of today's changing economic landscape, the Yale School of Management (Yale SOM) will host a series of programs titled "The New Economy Series 2000."

The programs, which are free and open to the Yale community, will bring together some of the major players from e-commerce and venture capital firms.

The New Economy Kickoff Meeting will take place on Friday, Feb. 11. Feature speakers will be Zen Chu of Venture.com and Katie Rae of AltaVista.com, both 1997 graduates of the Yale SOM. The event will take place at 3 p.m. in Room A-60 at SOM, 135 Prospect St.

The series will continue on Thursday, Feb. 17, with "CT.com: The Connecticut Venture Group E-Commerce Job Fair." The public is also invited to this event, which will take place at 6-8 p.m. at the New Haven Lawn Club, 193 Whitney Ave. Career workshops, discussion panels and another dot com job fair will be presented as the series continues throughout the spring. Watch the Yale Bulletin & Calendar for information about upcoming activities.

"This is a really exciting time for entrepreneurial activity -- there is tremendous energy and interest here at Yale SOM and throughout the University," says Richard Tavelli Yale SOM '79, an SOM career advisor for entrepreneurship. "Through this series, we hope to bring the school and the Yale community together with some of the major 'movers and shakers' in this field. As a result, we expect participants to gain insights and jobs, and several new ventures to be formed."

For more information about the series, call Meredith Milliken at (203) 432-5903 or visit www.som.yale.edu/CDO/newecon2000/newecon.html.
