Three members of the faculty and an alumnus of the Yale School of Music traveled to Taiwan in January to perform in concerts benefiting the victims of the recent earthquake that devastated parts of the country.
Pianist Elizabeth Sawyer Parisot and violinist Erick Friedman of the School of Music faculty joined Taiwanese cellist Kenneth Kuo '99 M.M. for concerts of chamber music and concertos in Tai-Chung on Jan. 16 and Tai-Nan on Jan. 18.
On Jan. 23, another faculty member, cellist and conductor Aldo Parisot, led members of the Taipei City Orchestra and the Taiwan National Symphony in a Mozart Divertimento and in concertos featuring Friedman and Kuo. All the performers donated their services for the cause of earthquake relief.
The concerts were organized by Kuo, a student of Aldo Parisot, in response to the earthquake that rocked Taiwan in late September -- the strongest to hit the country in 100 years. "I wanted to do something for my country at this time," says Kuo. "So I asked these wonderful musicians who were once my teachers to join me for these concerts. It is a privilege to now work with them as colleagues."
Kuo was also invited by the Taiwan Rotary Club to perform for President Lee Teng-hui on Jan. 15.
