Men's Basketball (7-14, 5-3 Ivy)

Freshman Chris Leanza (Parma, OH) scored a career-high 33 points as the Bulldogs topped Columbia 65-59 on Feb. 12 in New York City. Leanza hit 10-of-18 shots from the field, had three rebounds and two assists in 40 minutes. It was the first time a Yale player scored 30 points in a game since the 1994-95 season. Senior Jason Williams (Louisville, KY) added nine points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

On Feb. 11 the Bulldogs dropped a 65-57 decision at Cornell. Sophomore Onaje Woodbine (Boston, MA) paced Yale with 16 points, while junior Neil Yanke (Akron, OH) equaled his career high with 15 rebounds.

For his efforts, Leanza was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

Yale plays at Dartmouth on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and is at Harvard on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live in the New Haven area on WYBC (1340 AM). Coverage also is available on the internet at www.broadcast.com/radio/college/ wybcam.


Women's Basketball (9-12, 5-3 Ivy)

Junior Alyson Miller (Skokie, IL) scored 18 points and junior Lily Glick (Cleburne, TX) added 16 as Yale edged Columbia 64-60 on Feb. 12 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs led 37-20 at halftime and out-rebounded the Lions 42-32.

On Feb. 11, Yale beat Cornell 69-59. Freshman Helene Schutrumpf (Boulder, CO) led four players in double figures with 14 points. Senior Kelly Denit (Burtonsville, MD) added 10 points, including making all six of her free throws, and had six assists. The Bulldogs outscored the Big Red 26-12 from the foul line.

Yale hosts Dartmouth on Feb. 18 and Harvard on Feb. 19. Both games begin at 6 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.


Men's Fencing (6-2, 1-1 Ivy)

The Bulldogs beat Columbia 15-12 on Feb. 12 in Payne Whitney Gym. Yale won the epee 6-3 and the sabre 5-4. Freshman Marcus Weickel (Bremen, Germany) went 3-0 in the epee.

The Bulldogs are at the Junior Olympics on Feb. 18-20.


Women's Fencing (7-1, 3-0 Ivy)

Freshman Sophie Jones (Atherton, CA) and sophomore Helen Liu (Englewood Cliffs, NJ) went 3-0 in the sabre as Yale remained undefeated in the Ivy League with a 15-12 win over Columbia on Feb. 12 in Payne Whitney Gym. The Bulldogs won the sabre 7-2 and the foil 5-4.

Yale is at the Junior Olympics on Feb. 18-20.


Gymnastics (6-1, 1-0 Ivy)

Yale beat Vermont and MIT on Feb. 12 in Massachusetts. The Bulldogs finished with a score of 183.675, Vermont was second (172.525) and MIT placed third (170.575). Freshman Shoshanna Engel (Louisville, KY) finished first in the bars (9.65) and the floor exercise (9.750) and freshman Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) was first all-around (37.825) and in the vault (9.5).

The Bulldogs are at the Towson Invitational on Feb. 20.


Men's Hockey (9-10-4, 6-7-3 ECAC, 3-2-1 Ivy)

Senior Jeff Brow (Bricktown, NJ) and junior Ben Stafford (Edina, MN) each scored twice as Yale cruised to a 4-2 victory over Union on Feb. 12 in New York. Senior Paul Lawson (Hamilton, ONT) added a pair of assists, and senior Trevor Hanger (Guilford, CT) made 32 saves. The Bulldogs scored three times in the first period, including twice while on the power play.

On Feb. 11, Yale lost to Rensselaer 4-1 in Troy, NY. Freshman Nick Deschenes (Morinville, ALB) scored the Bulldogs' goal in the first period. Sophomore Dan Lombard (Andover, MA) made 22 saves in goal.

Yale hosts Dartmouth on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.


Women's Hockey (6-16-1, 2-15-1 ECAC, 0-7-0 Ivy)

Sophomore Katie Hirte (Cottage Grove, MN) made 35 saves as Yale earned a 2-2 tie with Maine on Feb. 11 at Ingalls Rink. Junior Lisa Meyers (Skokie, IL) and sophomore Emily Hyde (Buffalo, NY) both scored.

On Feb. 12 Yale dropped a 12-2 decision to New Hampshire. Senior Sue Barnes (London, ONT) and junior Jane Resor (Greenwich, CT) had the Bulldogs' goals.

Yale plays at Cornell on Feb. 19 and at St. Lawrence on Feb. 20. Both games begin at 2 p.m.


Men's Squash (13-2, 4-1 Ivy)

Senior Deji Olukotun (Hopewell, NJ) rallied from 2-0 down to win at No. 4 as Yale edged Denison 5-4 on Feb. 12 in Payne Whitney Gym. The Bulldogs won the bottom four positions.

Yale hosts Amherst on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.


Women's Squash (10-4, 2-3 Ivy)

Yale hosts the Howe Cup on Feb. 18-20 in Payne Whitney Gym.


Men's Swimming (10-2, 7-2 EISL, 5-2 Ivy)

The Bulldogs cruised to victories over Columbia and Brown on Feb. 12 in Providence. Yale beat Columbia 147-92 and topped the Bears 156-88. Sophomore Mike Schulte (Wellesley, MA) was a double winner. Schulte captured the 500 and 1000 freestyles. Other winners were senior Tim Moffet (Tiburon, CA) in the 50 freestyle, senior Stephen Fahy (Paget, Bermuda) in the 200 IM, senior Mike Caperonis (Hillsdale, NJ) in the 200 butterfly, junior George Gleason (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) in the 200 backstroke and senior Brett Rubin (Columbia, MD) in the 200 breaststroke.

The Bulldogs swim in the Yale Invitational on Feb. 19 at Kiphuth Pool.


Women's Swimming (6-4-1, 3-3-1 Ivy)

Yale lost to Brown 184.5-117.5 on Feb. 11 in Providence, RI. Senior Lindsay Wolter (Springfield, IL) won both the 100 and 200 backstrokes, and freshman Bates Gregory (Duxbury, MA) took the 1- and 3-meter diving events.

The Bulldogs swim in the Yale Invitational on Feb. 19 at Kiphuth Pool.


Men's Tennis (1-1, 0-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs fell to Oklahoma State 6-1 on Feb. 11 at Harvard. Junior Greg Royce (Rye, NY) was a winner in the No. 1 position for Yale.

The Bulldogs host Colgate on Feb. 19 at 12:30 p.m. and Richmond on Feb. 20 at 9:30 a.m.


Women's Tennis (1-2, 0-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs blanked Massachusetts 9-0 on Feb. 11 at Cullman Courts. Junior Cynthia Obsitnik (Okemos, MI) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with senior Jacklyn Fu (Hong Kong) to win at No. 1 doubles.

Yale takes part in the Princeton Invitational on Feb. 18-20.


Men's Track

The Bulldogs finished third with 42 points at the Harvard-Yale-Princeton meet on Feb. 12 in Cambridge, MA. Princeton was first with 79 points and Harvard was second with 50 points. Junior Ryan Barrows (York, NE) won the 800 run with a time of 1:51.53, which is third all-time at Yale. It also is the best Heptagonal time of the season and the eighth best in the Eastern Collegiate indoor rankings. In addition the 4x400 relay team of juniors Jason Rife (Lincoln, NE) and Zach Boisi (Locust Valley, NY) and sophomores Tom Hocker (San Jose, CA) and Don Carson (Pittsburgh, PA) finished in 3:15.87, which is third in the Eastern Collegiate rankings.

The Bulldogs are off until the Heptagonal Championships at Dartmouth on Feb. 26-27.


Women's Track

Yale set two individual school records in a meet with Harvard and Princeton on Feb. 12 in Cambridge, MA. Senior Diane Potkay (Derby, CT) had a throw of 43'8" in the shot put, and junior Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu (Chestnut Hill, MA) jumped 39'6.75" in the triple jump. As a team the Bulldogs placed second with 60 points. Harvard was first with 69 points and Princeton had 30.

Yale is off until the Heptagonal Championships at Dartmouth on Feb. 26-27.
