Gordon Shepherd, professor of neuroscience in the Section of Neurobiology and editor in chief of the Journal of Neuroscience, was awarded an honorary doctor of medical science degree by the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, at its annual commemoration day ceremonies on Nov. 18.
The Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II, was in attendance and personally congratulated each of the honorees.
Shepherd was honored for his pioneering studies in the field of neuroscience, including elucidation of the integrative functions of neuronal dendrites and the brain mechanisms underlying the sense of smell, and for his longstanding support of neuroscience in Denmark and Scandinavia.
