Memorial service is scheduled
for noted geologist Karl Waage

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17, for Karl Mensch Waage, the Alan M. Bateman Professor of Geology and Geophysics, who died on Oct. 18 at the age of 83.

The service will take place in Dwight Chapel, 67 High St. All are welcome to attend.

Professor Waage was a noted paleontologist whose research focused on the 65- to 140-million-year-old rocks and fossils of the Cretaceous seaways in the North American interior. His early research developed from work he did during World War II for the U.S. Geological Survey, when he explored the hills of Alabama for minerals important to the war effort.

A member of the Yale faculty for nearly 40 years, Professor Waage was a former director of the Peabody Museum of Natural History and served as curator of invertebrate paleontology there for many years.
