A forum on the early detection of ovarian cancer will be held 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, in the special events room in the cafeteria of the Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Peter E. Schwartz, director of the Gynecologic Oncology Research Program at the Yale Cancer Center, will present the latest information on battling this cancer which kills 14,500 women each year. Patricia Goldman, president of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, will address the role of physicians in listening to patients and recognizing symptoms. Phyllis M. Smith, gynecologic oncology social worker at Yale-New Haven Hospital, will speak on the psychosocial aspects of dealing with ovarian cancer.
The purpose of the forum is to provide women who are at high risk information on how to remain healthy and how to get treatment in time. Those who are at high risk for ovarian cancer are Caucasian women who have never had children or who have a family history of cancer. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary and Department of Social Work, and Hadassah. Free parking is available in lot 2 on Frontage Rd. For information, call (203) 688-2000 or toll-free (888) 700-6543.
