Senior Heather Bentley helped the women's lacrosse team beat Harvard on April 2 with one goal and one assist. The team hopes to continue its winning streak in its next games, against Boston College and Princeton.


Y A L E S C O R E B O A R D

Baseball (8-18, 0-4 Ivy)

Senior Tony Coyne (Huntingtown, MD) hit a three-run home run and knocked in four runs as the Bulldogs cruised to a 15-4 victory over Marist on March 29 at Yale Field. Senior Brian Ivy (Austin, TX) went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and sophomore Keith Reams (Moraga, CA) added three hits and two RBI.

On April 1 Yale dropped a doubleheader at Pennsylvania 5-3 and 9-1. Junior R.D. DeSantis (Dunedin, FL) homered in the opening game, and the Bulldogs were limited to two hits in the second game.

On April 2 Yale lost 14-9 and 7-5 at Columbia. Freshman Darren Beasley (Ramseur, NC) had two hits and four RBI in the first game, and freshman Chris Elkins (Tampa, FL) was 4-for-5 in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs host Seton Hall on April 4 at 3 p.m. and then play doubleheaders at home against Princeton on April 8 at 1 p.m. and against Cornell on April 9 at noon. The Princeton games will be broadcast in the New Haven area on WYBC (1340 AM). Coverage also is available on the Internet at www.broadcast.com/radio/college/wybcam.


Heavyweight Crew

Yale's varsity finished first in the Petite Final at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1-2.

The Bulldogs race Dartmouth on April 15 on the Housatonic River.


Lightweight Crew

The Bulldogs' varsity captured the Secretary of the Navy Trophy for the fourth straight year at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1-2. Yale finished in 6:04.9, nearly four seconds ahead of Harvard, which placed second at 6:08.9.

Yale races MIT on April 8 on the Charles River.


Women's Crew (2-1, 2-1 Ivy)

Yale's varsity eight topped both Pennsylvania and Columbia on April 1 on the Harlem River in New York. The Bulldogs finished in 6:10.0. Penn was second at 6:16.5 and Columbia was third in 6:22.2. Yale also won the first novice (6:11.8) and the third varsity four (6:17.9).

The Bulldogs race Syracuse and Cornell on April 8 in Syracuse, NY.


Men's Golf

The Bulldogs finished 12th in a 27-team field with a score of 306 at the Golden Horseshoe Colonial Invitational on March 27 in Virginia. The second round was cancelled because of rain. Senior Peter Schumacher (Alpine, CA) and junior Eddie Brockner (Dix Hills, NY) both shot 75 to tie for 28th.

The Bulldogs host the Yale Spring Opener April 8-9 at the Yale Golf Course.


Women's Golf

The Bulldogs finished sixth out of 17 teams with a two-round score of 647 at the William & Mary Invitational at the Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, VA., on April 1-2. Sophomore Jennifer Schriefer (Fort Wayne, IN) was Yale's medalist. She tied for 10th place with a 158.

The Bulldogs are at the Boston College Invitational April 8-9.


Gymnastics (6-3, 1-0 Ivy)

Freshman Andrea Wolf (Seattle, WA) had an all-around score of 38.075 at the NCAA Region 5 Championships at Penn State on April 1. Wolf had a 9.625 on the vault, a 9.350 on the bars, a 9.550 on the beam and a 9.550 on the floor exercise.


Men's Lacrosse (3-3, 1-2 Ivy)

Yale fell at third-ranked Princeton 17-5 on April 1. Sophomore Brian Hunt (West Chester, PA) scored twice, and juniors Mike Morris (Lutherville, MD) and Tyler Brawner (Phoenix, MD) and freshman Mike Scaglione (Huntington, NY) added one goal each.

The Bulldogs host Brown on April 5 at 3 p.m. and Rutgers on April 8 at 1 p.m. The Brown game will be broadcast in the New Haven area on WYBC (1340 AM). Coverage also is available on the Internet at www.broadcast.com/radio/college/wybcam.


Women's Lacrosse (6-1, 2-1 Ivy)

Junior Kate Flatley (Greenwich, CT) scored the winning goal with 4:22 left in the second half as the Bulldogs edged Harvard 7-6 on April 2 at Yale Bowl. Freshman Clarissa Clarke (Huntington, NY) scored twice, while senior Heather Bentley (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) and junior Katherine Myers (Ardsley-on-Hudson, NY) added one goal and one assist. Freshman Amanda Sisley (Old Greenwich, CT) made 10 saves in goal.

On March 29 Yale walloped Fairfield 22-3. Sophomore Amanda Walton (Chestnut Hill, MA) and Flatley led the onslaught with five goals apiece.

The Bulldogs are at Boston College on April 5 at 3:30 p.m. and at Princeton on April 8 at 2 p.m.


Softball (10-13-1, 0-0 Ivy)

Senior Teri Hickey (Tenino, WA) scattered four hits and struck out three in pitching her second shutout of the season as Yale blanked Fordham 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on April 2. Junior Kristen Maturo (Orange, CT) had a pair of RBI, and freshman Laura Beckert (Winter Haven, FL) knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. Fordham won the second game 3-0. Freshman Jesseka Bartholomew (Lake Forest, CA) had the Bulldogs' only hit, a bloop single in the fifth inning.

On March 29 senior Carlie Ware (Mountain View, CA) and junior Alice Liu (San Jose, CA) both went 2-for-3 as Yale topped Rhode Island 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. Sophomore Cara Denver (Vancouver, WA) pitched a complete game and struck out five. The second game was called because of darkness with the score tied at 0-0 after seven innings. Freshman Mariah Fike (Fremont, CA) pitched well, allowing only two hits.

Yale plays two at Connecticut on April 4 at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs then begin Ivy League play with doubleheaders at Pennsylvania on April 8 at noon and at Princeton on April 9 at 1 p.m.


Men's Tennis (7-7, 0-0 Ivy)

Junior Greg Royce (Rye, NY) cruised to a straight sets victory in the No. 1 position as Yale beat Boston College 6-1 on March 28. Other singles winners were senior Scott Mayo (New Canaan, CT) juniors Scott Carlton (Upland, CA) and Matthew Chang (Aiea, HI) and freshman Ben Woodhouse (Danville, CA).

On April 2 the Bulldogs fell 7-0 at Navy.

Yale plays at Princeton on April 7 at 2 p.m. and at Pennsylvania on April 8 at noon.


Women's Tennis (9-7, 0-0 Ivy)

Senior Jacklyn Fu (Hong Kong), junior Lauren Muehl (Orange Park, FL), sophomore Liz Oosterhuis (McLean, VA) and freshman Biffy Kaufman (La Jolla, CA) were all straight sets winners in singles as Yale beat Boston College 6-3 on April 1.

On April 2 the Bulldogs blanked Temple 6-0. Sophomore Andrea Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) was a winner in the No. 1 singles position.

Yale hosts Princeton on April 7 at 2:30 p.m. and Pennsylvania on April 8 at 12:30 p.m.


Men's Track

At the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, VA, March 31-April 1, junior Jason Rife (Lincoln, NE) won the 400 dash, junior Ryan Barrows (York, NE) was second in the 800 run and senior Joe Racine (Valparaiso, IN) was fourth in the 1500 run.

At the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State on April 1, junior Rob Doyle (Chicago, IL) placed fifth in the 10,000 run with a time of 30:05.

The Bulldogs host a team from Birmingham, England, in an exhibition meet on April 8.


Women's Track

Junior Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu (Chestnut Hill, MA) set a school record in the triple jump with a leap of 40' 4.75" at the Colonial Relays on March 31-April 1 in Virginia. In the 3000 run, junior Katie Rigney (Carmel, CA) was second in 9:50.44 and freshman Laura O'Neill (Milton, MA) placed fourth in 9:54.55.

The Bulldogs host a team from Birmingham, England, in an exhibition meet on April 8.
