Free screening for anxiety, depression

Sleeplessness, irritability and sudden changes in weight may be signs of anxiety and depression, and are among symptoms to be highlighted in a free screening clinic to be held at the School of Medicine on Wednesday, May 3.

For the seventh year, the Yale Anxiety Disorders Research Clinic is joining a national campaign to offer information about anxiety and depression with free consultations, information and a written self-test.

The day-long clinic coinciding with National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day will be held 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the rotunda of the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St.

Dr. Andrew Goddard, director of the Anxiety Disorders Research Clinic, said one purpose of the screening clinic is to educate people about anxiety and depression.

"Some anxiety disorders are closely linked to depression," he said. "If you have anxiety, your risk of having depression goes up 10-fold."
