In a concert benefiting the Family Support Fund of the Yale Center for Children with Special Health Care Needs, the Alphen Opus 2 of Holland and the "K" Trio of North Haven will perform "Musical Dutch Treats" at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, in the Thornton Wilder Auditorium of the Miller Library complex, 2901 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and include light refreshments of Dutch sweet treats and beverages.
The Alliance for Architecture, a program of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, has arranged guided tours of the offices of distinguished New Haven architects. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, the tour will include the offices of Cesar Pelli & Associates; Buchanan Associates; David Harlan, Architects; and Herbert S. Newman & Partners. Pelli is a visiting professor and Newman is a critic of architecture, both at the School of Architecture. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, the tour will include the offices of Allan Dehar Associates, Connell Associates Architects, Thompson-Ameche Architects and Kevin Roche-John Dinkloo & Associates. The Town Green Special Services District invites all Yale affiliates to attend six free "Do Downtown!" lunchtime concerts in New Haven's newest downtown pocket park, the Temple Street Plaza, one-half block from the New Haven Green across from the Omni Hotel. The concert series will run on consecutive Thursdays starting May 11, 12:30-1:30 p.m., and will feature such New Haven area musical groups as the Odyssey Brass Quintet, The George Baker Experience, The Clam Diggers, the Giacomo Gates Jazz Trio, A Broadway Cabaret Experience and the Klyph Johnson Jazz Trio. In case of rain, the performances will relocate to the covered portico of the Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel St.
Timothy Dwight College senior Elise Couper has been selected as a scholar of the St. Andrew's Society of the State of New York. She will pursue graduate studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland during the 2000-01 academic year.
Geoffrey Hartman, Sterling Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature, will present the Charles Homer Haskins Lecture, titled "A Life of Learning," on May 5 at the annual meeting of the American Council of Learned Societies in Washington, D.C.
The Office of International Education and Fellowship Programs (IEFP) has announced the appointment of George Levesque, who until recently served as part-time study abroad adviser at IEFP, to the newly created position of assistant director for UK fellowships. The position was created to support the Rhodes, Marshall and other postgraduate scholarship programs. A 1994 graduate of the Divinity School, Levesque has worked at the Divinity School as a part-time research fellow on the Jonathan Edwards Project, in the Office of Undergraduate Career Services as a general career counselor, at Berkeley College as resident fellow and as a freshman faculty adviser. He has coordinated the international student orientation and served as assistant master of the summer programs.
