Yale Physicians Building to be city's newest art exhibit space

The Yale Physicians Building (YPB), the medical office building of the Yale Faculty Practice, has been designated as a New Haven Art Space and will feature exhibits by Yale faculty and staff, as well as artists from the Greater New Haven area.

Phase I of the exhibit kicks off with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the YPB. Paintings, photographs, quilts and sculptures by five Yale faculty members will be showcased. After the initial exhibit, submissions will be solicited from the Yale community for a series of juried events.

Phase II will expand to include artists from the Greater New Haven area.

"The use of the YPB as a New Haven Art Space supports our ongoing efforts to improve our patient setting," said Lorraine Roseman, director of operations at the YPB. "We are committed to creating a warm, friendly and attractive environment for patients and their families as they come to Yale for care."

The YPB is working with volunteers and local businesses to fund the program. The Arts Council of Greater New Haven provided ideas for the creation of the Art Space. Terry Dagradi, a graphic designer in ITS-Med Media Services, is also contributing her expertise to design and plan the exhibit space. Roseman also collaborated with the Reverend Sally Bailey, a consultant in spiritual care to the Yale Cancer Center and chair of the Arts Subcommittee of the Program for the Humanities in Medicine at Yale.

"I believe that the Yale Physicians Building will provide a venue for an ongoing series of high quality cultural exhibits," said Bitsie Clark, executive director of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven.

"Mark your calendars for our opening exhibit and reception on June 2nd, and look for some exciting additions to our building this summer," said Roseman. "We are thrilled about this opportunity to share the wealth of art and talent from our community."
