Special offers make the Yale Rep
'affordable and accessible to all'

An assortment of single-ticket and package discounts makes Yale Repertory Theatre plays affordable to anyone who wishes to see them.

Ranging from special family matinees to student rush tickets to pay-what-you-can nights, these discounts allow patrons to enjoy quality theater inexpensively, says Roxanne Moffitt, director of marketing and communications for the Rep.

"We are pleased to present so many opportunities for New Haven to see professional theatre at Yale Repertory Theatre," Moffitt notes. "It is absolutely critical to the cultural livelihood of any community that the arts are accessible and affordable to all its constituents."

New this year to the regular fare of Rep ticket discounts is the "Saturday Family Matinee" series. Through the series, tickets for adults are purchased for 25 percent off the regular price, while tickets for children under 18 years old cost just $1. Sponsored by WSHU Radio, the series gives a family of four the opportunity to experience live theater for as little as $13.25 each, offering "the magic of live theater to young people and their parents or guardians at an affordable price," says Moffitt. She adds that Rep plays probably would be enjoyed most by children ages 10 and up.

One performance of each of this season's six main-stage productions is part of the Saturday Family Matinee series. For "The Imaginary Invalid," that matinee performance is Oct. 9. Subsequent Family Matinee days are Nov. 13, Dec. 18, Feb. 26, April 8 and May 13.

Other special discounts are described below.

* In addition to the usual $25 Rep membership offered to faculty and staff -- which entitles members to purchase one ticket for any performance of each play for just $10 -- the Rep this season introduced the "Party Pack" membership. This $50 faculty/staff membership allows members of the Rep to purchase up to four $10 tickets for each play.

* Every Wednesday night is Pay-What-You-Can Night. Tickets go on sale the day of the performance and may be purchased at the box office. Pay-What-You-Can-Night is sponsored by WKCI Radio.

* Advance-purchase, $10 "Hot Tix" tickets are available every performance.

* Half-price student rush tickets are on sale one-half hour before each performance; these tickets are available to any area student with a valid student I.D.

* Student Passbooks allow Yale students with a valid I.D. to see all six main stage plays for $54 at their choice of day and time. Students who purchase passbooks before Wednesday, Sept. 16, will receive the exclusive Yale Rep Restaurant Card, good for discounts at area restaurants.

* Senior citizens may purchase tickets for $15 for any weekday performance.
