This fall, all of the speakers participating in the weekly, midday "Books Sandwiched In" discussion series at United Church on the Green are Yale affiliates.
The talks take place Thursdays, 12:10-12:50 p.m., and are free and open to the public.
Kicking off the series Sept. 30 will be Paul Kennedy, the Richardson Dilworth Professor of History, discussing the book "Winston and Clementine" by Mary James.
The other Yale presenters and the books they will discuss are:
Oct. 7: Risa Sodi, senior lector, Italian department, "Primo Levi: Tragedy of an Optimist" by Myriam Anissimov.
Oct. 14: Jonathan Holloway, assistant professor of history, "To Keep the Waters Troubled: The Life of Ida B. Wells" by Linda McMurray.
Oct. 21: Rogers Smith, the Cowles Professor of Government, "Morgan: American Financier" by Jean Strouse.
Nov. 4: Gaddis Smith, the Larned Professor of History, "The Color of Truth: McGeorge Bundy and William Bundy, Brothers in Arms" by Kai Bird.
Nov. 11: Martin Price, Sterling Professor of History Emeritus, "In Plato's Cave" by Alvin Kernan.
Nov. 18: Judith Schiff, chief research archivist, manuscripts and archives, "Lindbergh" by A. Scott Berg.
The series also includes alumnus Paul Bass, Yale College Class of 1982. On Oct. 28 Bass, editor of the New Haven Advocate, will discuss "The Times of My Life and My Life with the Times" by Max Frankel.
"Books Sandwiched In" is sponsored by the Friends of the New Haven Free Public Library. Participants are invited to bring their own lunches. Coffee, tea and cookies are available 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m. in the basement of the church, which is located on the corner of Temple and Elm streets.
