Health-care providers can learn about the latest advances in detecting, treating and preventing breast cancer at a program being held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the School of Medicine.
The program, part of the Yale Pathology Series on Contemporary Issues in Diagnostic Assessment, will take place 6-10 p.m. in Rm. 110 of the Jane Ellen Hope Building, 315 Cedar St. It is designed for obstetricians/gynecologists, radiologists, surgeons, primary care physicians and oncologists. Participants can earn 3.5 credit hours towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.
Among the featured speakers will be Dr. Bruce Haffty, associate professor of therapeutic radiology, who will discuss his research on the recurrence of breast cancer in women who have genetic markers for the disease and who opt for conservative treatment. (See related story.)
Other medical school faculty members featured in the program will be: Dr. José Costa, opening remarks; Dr. Darryl Carter, "Surgical Pathology Report of the 21st Century"; Dr. Irena Tocino, "New Developments in Breast Imaging"; Dr. Deborah Dillon, "Molecular Pathogenesis of Breast Cancer"; Dr. Michael DiGiovanna, "Clinical Implications of HER-2/neu"; Dr. Barbara Burtness, "The Role of Dose-Dense Therapy in Breast Cancer"; Dr. Barbara Ward, "Breast Cancer Prevention: The STAR Trial."
The program will conclude with a roundtable discussion.
The fee for the "Detection, Treatment and Prevention of Breast Cancer: A Molecular Perspective" program is $25. To register, call (203) 785-4578.
