One of the featured 108
"The Classroom," an oil painting by Yale alumnus and staff member Brian Schmidt, is one of the works on view in the 100th anniversary exhibition of the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, the oldest, still active art organization in New England. Schmidt earned a M.F.A. from the School of Art in 1989 and is a senior administrative assistant there. His painting is among 108 works by 108 artists on view in the exhibition. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2-5 p.m. at the John Slade Ely house, 51 Trumbull St. in New Haven, the site of the main exhibit of 100 works. Another eight works are at the Small Space Gallery in the Community Foundation building at 70 Audubon St. Club president and former Yale staff member Dolores Gall will give a guided tour of the exhibit on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. Exhibition hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
