Junior Peter Grote and his teammates on Yale's men's squash team shut out both Pennsylvania and Franklin & Marshall during matches on Dec. 2. The team will next compete in January at the USSRA Team Championship.

Senior Neil Yanke (Akron, OH) had two blocks against Hartford and now has 89 for his career, which ties Stuart Davies '92 for the second most in school history. Yanke also had 20 points against the Hawks and has scored at least 20 points in two of the last three games.

Freshman Scott Gaffield (Ottawa, ONT) has five field goals, and all five have been three-pointers. He is tied for second on the team in three-pointers, despite averaging just 12.4 minutes per game.

Dec. 2 -- Quinnipiac 66, Yale 51

This Week: Dec. 6 at Hartford, 7 p.m.

Dec. 8 vs. Lafayette, 6 p.m., John J. Lee Amphitheater

Freshman Bonnie Smith (Mesalonskee, ME) had a career-high 11 points against Quinnipiac in only 12 minutes. She was 4 for 5 from the field, including 3 of 4 from three-point range.


Men's Fencing (1-0, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Nov. 30 -- Yale 17, NYU 10

Next: Jan. 13 at Vassar/Rutgers

Against NYU Yale won the foil 8-1 and the sabre 6-3 but lost the epee 6-3.

Freshman Peter Cellini (Chevy Chase, MD) and sophomore Daniel Senft (Bonn, Germany) went undefeated in the foil for the Bulldogs.


Women's Fencing (2-0, 1-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Nov. 30 -- Yale 23, NYU 4

Dec. 2 -- Yale 18, Cornell 9

Next: Jan. 13 at Vassar/Rutgers

Junior Helen Liu (Englewood Cliffs, NJ), sophomore Sophie Jones (Atherton, CA) and freshman Sada Jacobson (Atlanta, GA) were all 3-0 in the sabre against NYU.

Freshman Zane Selkirk (New York, NY) went undefeated in the foil in the victory over Cornell.


Men's Ice Hockey (5-5-0, 3-5-0 ECAC)

Sophomore Evan Wax (Syosset, NY) had a goal against both Cornell and Colgate

Freshman Gabrielle Goodfellow (Dorval, QUE) scored her first career goal in the 5-2 loss to Mercyhurst.

Dec. 2 -- Yale 9, Franklin & Marshall 0

Next: Jan. 5-7 at USSRA Team Championship

The Bulldogs won all nine matches 3-0 against Pennsylvania.

Junior Peter Grote (St. Louis, MO) was a winner in the No. 1 position against the Quakers.

Winners for the Bulldogs against Pennsylvania were seniors Liese Fritze (Chestnut Hill, MA), Thea Handelman (Portland, OR) and Anna Nordberg (New York, NY) and junior Colleen Terry (Seattle, WA).


Men's Swimming (2-0, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Nov. 30-Dec. 2 -- 2nd at Virginia Invitational (730)

This Week: Jan. 3 vs. Amherst

Freshman Josh Gallant (Orleans, ONT) finished first and junior Chris Birrer (Locust Valley, NY) was third in the 3-meter diving at the Virginia Invitational.

This Week: Jan. 3 vs. Amherst

Yale had three second-place finishes at the Virginia Invitational: senior Meredith Bryarly (Conroe, TX) in the 100 freestyle, sophomore Susan Cooke (Vero Beach, FL) in the 200 breaststroke and sophomore Bates Gregory (Duxbury, MA) in the 3-meter diving.
