Rite of passage

Edidiong Ikpe is all smiles as she receives the traditional white doctor's coat from Dr. John N. Forest during the School of Medicine's "White Coat Ceremony" on Aug. 28. The school's dean, Dr. David Kessler (left), looks on. The coat, a symbol of purity and life, is given to newly enrolled medical students to officially mark their new status as doctors-in-training. Members of the School of Medicine's Class of 2004 come from countries around the globe.
