British and Yale surgeons to share meeting of the minds
Members of the Royal College of Surgeons of England will meet with professors from Yale's Department of Surgery on Wednesday, March 14, to discuss such questions as "Will the 20th Century Look as Barbaric to the 21st Century Surgeons as the 19th Century Did to Us?"
The gathering of surgeons from both sides of the Atlantic will take place 8 a.m.-6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel St.
Hosted by Dr. Irvin Modlin, professor of surgery and gastroenterology at Yale's School of Medicine, the meeting represents the Royal College's first-ever visit to the United States. The Royal College of Surgeons of England is the oldest established body of surgeons in existence.
The meeting will include a mock medical trial and diverse presentations on topics of surgical management as perceived by both American and British surgeons. In addition to a look at health care in the 21st century, lectures will include "Future Trends," by Sir Barry Jackson and Modlin; "The Sale of the Grail (De Motu Chiurugia)" by Modlin; and "Cybersurgery and Virtual Reality" by Dr. Richard Satava, professor of surgery and gastroenterology at Yale. The lectures are free and open to the public.
