Vice President for Development Charles Pagnam has announced a series of changes in the Office of Development "that allow us to profit from the exceptional skill of existing staff as well as complementing our skills with external perspective."
Usha Pasi has been appointed director of foundation relations, Pat Zandy has been named director of major gifts, Larry Link has become deputy director of major gifts, and Anne Marie Phelan has joined the staff as director of marketing and communications.
Pasi began her career at Yale in 1987. For most of the time since she has been a member of the major gifts staff, progressing through increasingly responsible positions and eventually becoming deputy director of major gifts. In that post, she served on the Gift Implementation and Stewardship Committee.
"Usha has developed relationships with key alumni and friends in a variety of geographies, most notably in the greater New York area," says Pagnam. "She has successfully matched the philanthropic interests of our individual donors with the goals of the University in ways that are satisfying for the donor and meet core institutional priorities. These skills, combined with Usha's strong knowledge of the University, our strategic imperatives, faculty and staff make her ideally suited to this assignment."
Zandy, who has been with the Office of Development since 1993, is now the director of major gifts. Zandy served most recently as deputy director of major gifts. A lawyer by training, she has worked with volunteers and alumni across the country, including those in the metropolitan Boston area.
"Pat is known for her strong skill in cultivating relationships with key constituents and moving them to significant gifts of support in priority areas," says Pagnam. "Her many talents will enable her to bring the major gifts team to an even higher level of performance."
Supporting Zandy in her new role will be Larry Link, director of international development, who will assume additional responsibilities as deputy director of major gifts.
Link began his career with the Development Office in 1989 with a focus on the mid-west. He later shifted his sights to Europe to support President Richard C. Levin's strategy for the internationalization of Yale. Since becoming director of international development in 1998, Link has been an active participant in the President's Council on International Activities and has worked extensively with alumni, parents and friends to further Yale's goals in the Pacific Rim. He will continue that work in his new post.
Phelan, the newest member of the Development Office, comes to Yale from Bell Atlantic Corporation, where she was managing director in business marketing. She has extensive experience in marketing strategy, event management and customer communications.
