Books Sandwiched In series
features all-Yale line-up this fall

While Yale community members are often featured speakers for Books Sandwiched In, the noontime discussions sponsored by the Friends of the New Haven Public Library, this fall all the speakers in the Thursday series hail from Yale.

The first three presenters will be speaking about their own books. Claude Anne Lopez, special consultant to the Papers of Benjamin Franklin, will discuss "My Life with Benjamin Franklin" on Sept. 28. Robert J. Shiller, the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Economics, will talk about "Irrational Exuberance" on Oct. 5. And Dr. Sherwin B. Nuland, clinical professor of surgery (gastroenterology), will discuss "The Mysteries Within: A Surgeon Reflects on Medical Myths" on Oct. 12.

Other featured speakers and their topics will be: Marie Borroff, Sterling Professor Emeritus of English -- Seamus Heaney's "Beowulf: A New Verse Translation," Oct. 19; Willie H. Ruff Jr., adjunct professor at the School of Music -- Allan Keiler's "Marian Anderson: A Singer's Journey," Oct. 26; Gaddis Smith, the Larned Professor Emeritus of History -- Frances Fitzgerald's "Way Out There in the Blue: Reagan, Star Wars, and the End of the Cold War," Nov. 2; Howard R. Lamar, Sterling Professor Emeritus of History and former Yale president -- Ian Frazier's "On the Rez," Nov. 9.; and Charles Remington, professor emeritus of ecology/evolutionary biology -- Steve Jones's "Darwin's Ghost: The Origin of Species Updated," Nov. 16.

Book Sandwiched In discussions take place 12:10-1 p.m. in United Church on the Green, corner of Temple and Elm streets. The public is invited to bring a lunch to the free talks; coffee, tea and cookies are available in the church basement 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m.
