![]() | Michael Gerber and Joanna Manders received the Robert E. Lewis Award. |
The award is presented each year to the senior who has shown commitment and high ideals as a participant in intramural sports. The awards were presented by Robert Farris Thompson, master of Timothy Dwight College and the Colonel John Trumbull Professor of the History of Art, who also serves as chair of the Council of Masters Committee on Athletics.
This year's recipients are Joanna Manders of Branford College and Michael Gerber of Ezra Stiles College. Manders is majoring in art. Gerber is majoring in history of science/history of medicine.
Their award citation follows.
Joanna Manders
"Joanna has played on virtually every Branford team and captained six teams. As intramurals (IM) secretary, she recruited, she suited, she got 'em all out there. She is the reason why Branford zoomed up."
"As for Michael, Stiles is retiring his jersey to the rafters of his dining hall. He too was out there, peerlessly participating, cheering them on. This Moose was loose -- and brilliant.
"These two embodied the best IM spirit."
