Four alumni of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences were honored with Wilbur Lucius Cross Medals at the school's Commencement Convocation on May 20. Pictured above with Graduate School Dean Susan Hockfield (second from left) are this year's winners (from left): Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León '81 Ph.D., former president of Mexico; Roger N. Shepard '55 Ph.D., the Ray Lyman Wilbur Professor Emeritus of Social Science at Stanford University; Elliot M. Meyerowitz '77 Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Biology at the California Institute of Technology; and Stephen Owen '68 B.A., '72 Ph.D., the James Bryant Conant University Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. Established in 1966, the awards are named for Wilbur Lucius Cross, dean of the Graduate School from 1916 to 1930. Each year, the medal is presented to a handful of Graduate School alumni in honor of their outstanding achievement.
