Campus Notes

The Yale Summer Chorus will perform on Wednesday, July 25, at 8 p.m. at the Trinity Church on the Green. The program will feature Ralph Vaughan Williams' choral masterpiece "Dona Nobis Pacem." President Richard C. Levin announced the appointment or reappointment of the chairs of three departments. Dimitri Gutas was reappointed chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations for a term of three years. David Quint was reappointed chair of the Program in Renaissance Studies for a term of two years. Michael Della Rocca, professor of philosophy, was appointed chair of the Department of Philosophy for a term of three years; he replaces Robert Adams. Keith DeRose, professor of philosophy, will serve as acting chair of the Department of Philosophy while Della Rocca takes a leave of absence during the fall 2001 semester. The appointments are effective July 1.

Dr. James Leckman, the Neison Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry and professor of pediatrics, received a Distinguished Alumni Award at a meeting of The College of Wooster's Alumni Association on June 9 in Wooster, Ohio. Leckman received his B.A. from Wooster in 1969. He joined Yale's School of Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry in 1976 and has been at Yale since. Currently he serves as the director of research at the Child Study Center.

Paul C. Ha has been appointed deputy director for programs management and external affairs of the Yale University Art Gallery effective Aug. 20. Ha formerly was executive director of White Columns, New York's oldest non-profit alternative art gallery.

Dr. Elise W. Snyder, associate clinical professor of psychiatry, will deliver three lectures on psychoanalysis in China in August. Snyder will address the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; a faculty and graduate student seminar on literary theory at Tsinghua University in Beijing; and the Cheng Du Psychoanalytic Center of Szechuan University.

Ilona Kickbusch, professor of epidemiology and public health, will receive the Andrija Stampar Medal from the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) during the organizations's annual conference in Hungary on Sept. 22. Kickbusch was selected by ASPHER's executive board for contributing lifelong distinguished service to public health.
