Members of the U.S. Air Force will arrive at Yale on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with the mission of entertaining through music-making and song.
The United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will be featured in a concert at 8 p.m. in Woolsey Hall, corner of College and Wall streets. While all the tickets for the free performance have already been distributed, individuals are welcome to attend the concert on a standby basis by coming to Woolsey Hall; standby guests will be admitted 15 minutes before the performance if seats are available. Seating is not guaranteed. For further information, call (203) 432-4113.
The United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants form the flagship musical ensemble of The United States Air Force Band. The Concert Band -- the premier band of the U.S. Air Force -- is a world-class symphonic wind ensemble. The 65-member band performs a wide variety of musical repertoire, from light classics, popular favorites and instrumental features to serious classical transcriptions and original works. The band, which is in constant demand for performances, has also established an international reputation as a champion of new works, with dozens of world premieres to its credit.
The Singing Sergeants is the official 23-voice chorus of the U.S. Air Force and is one of the most traveled choral organizations. Its repertoire includes opera, traditional and contemporary choral literature, oratorio, folk songs, pop standards, musical theater and jazz, with an emphasis on the choral music of America. The Singing Sergeants have been featured at divisional and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America and Music Educators National Conference.
Colonel Lowell E. Graham, a U.S. Air Force commander, will conduct the performance, which is presented by the Yale University Bands.
