Anne Rippetoe's two assists in the Yale field hockey team's win against Columbia on Oct. 11 brought her career high to 19, tying her for the third most in Yale history.

Senior Rob Doyle (Chicago, IL) was Yale's top finisher at the New England Championships. He placed ninth with a time of 24 minutes, 36 seconds.


Women's Cross Country (2-0, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 13 -- 1st at New England Championships (20)

Next: Oct. 27 at Heptagonal Championships (Van Cortlandt Park)

Sophomore Laura O'Neill (Milton, MA) was the individual winner at the New England Championships. She completed the 5.017-kilometer course in 17:35.

Yale had five of the top seven finishers. Sophomore Kate O'Neill (Milton, MA) was third (17:35), senior Katie Rigney (Carmel, CA) was fourth (17:44), sophomore Lindsay Mitchell (Woodland Park, CO) was fifth (17:46) and senior Katherine LaFrance (Rosemont, PA) was seventh (17:56).

The Bulldogs were ranked 11th in the FinishLynx national poll on Oct. 9

Oct. 21 vs. Pennsylvania, Noon, Central Ave. Field

Freshman Jana Halfon (Richmond, VA) scored the game-winning goal with 16 seconds left in the second half in the victory over Columbia. It was her first career goal.

The win over Columbia was the first for Yale head coach Ainslee Lamb.

Senior Anne Rippetoe (Los Altos, CA) had two assists against Columbia. She now has 19 in her career, which ties her for the third most in Yale history.


Football (4-1, 1-1 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 14 -- Yale 24, Fordham 17

This Week: Oct. 21 vs. Pennsylvania, 1 p.m., Yale Bowl

Yale scored 10 fourth-quarter points to rally from behind and beat Fordham. Senior Rashad Bartholomew's (Palos Verdes, CA) second touchdown run of the day gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with 10:39 remaining. Senior Mike Murawczyk (Cherry Hill, NJ) added a 31-yard field goal with 3:16 left. It was the second straight week Yale trailed at end of the third quarter but came back to win.

Bartholomew rushed for 185 yards against Fordham to move past Rich Diana '82 and into second place all-time at Yale with 2,695 yards. Dick Jauron '73, currently the head coach of the Chicago Bears, is the school record holder with 2,947 career yards.

Yale earned a tie with 18th-ranked Fairfield when sophomore John Walker (Des Moines, IA) scored his first career goal in the 54th minute. Sophomore Steve Gibbons (Mesquite, TX) had a goal and an assist in the game against Harvard.


Women's Soccer (7-5-1, 1-3-0 Ivy)

This Week: Oct. 18 vs. Notre Dame, 7 p.m., Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium

Oct. 21 vs. Penn, 4 p.m., Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium

Sophomore Chandra King (Mission Viejo, CA) scored her eighth goal of the season at the 58:20 mark as Yale upset 18th-ranked Connecticut. The win was the Bulldogs' first over the Huskies in 20 games. UConn leads the series between the teams 17-1-2.

Notre Dame brings a 15-0 overall record to New Haven. The Fighting Irish are the only unbeaten team in the nation and have been ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA national poll since Sept. 18.

Against Princeton, senior Stephanie McMahon (Manhattan Beach, CA) had a career-high 21 kills, and freshman Jeannie Davis (Alta Loma, CA) added a career-high 12 kills.
