Sophomores Kate and Laura O'Neill were instrumental in helping the women's cross country team win the Heptagonal Championships on Oct. 27. It was the fifth time Yale has won the championship, with the latest victory in 1989.

Senior Rob Doyle (Chicago, IL) earned second team All-Ivy honors by placing eighth with a time of 25:15.5 at the Heptagonal Championships.


Women's Cross Country (2-0, 2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 27 -- Won Heptagonal Championships (47 points)

Next: Nov. 11 at NCAA District I Qualifier (Van Cortlandt Park)

Yale won the Heptagonal Championship for the fifth time in school history. The Bulldogs last Heps title came in 1989.

Sophomore Laura O'Neill (Milton, MA) earned first team All-Ivy honors by placing fourth with a time of 17:45.9. Sophomores Kate O'Neill (Milton, MA) and Lindsay Mitchell (Woodland Park, CO) and seniors Katie Rigney (Carmel, CA) and Katherine LaFrance (Rosemont, PA) all were second team. Kate O'Neill was ninth (18:03.1), Mitchell was 10th (18:07.4), Rigney was 11th (18:12.7) and LaFrance was 13th (18:16.8).


Field Hockey (3-13, 2-4 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 28 -- Virginia 2, Yale 1

Oct. 29 -- Duke 3, Yale 1

This Week: Nov. 4 at Brown, noon

Senior Christine Anthony (Oklahoma City, OK) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season with 27 minutes left in the second half in the game against Virginia. It gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead over the ninth-ranked Cavaliers.

Sophomore Marissa McNaughton (Lake Grove, NY) scored the Bulldogs' goal against Duke.


Football (6-1, 3-1 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 28 -- Yale 41, Columbia 0

This Week: Nov. 4 at Brown, 12:30 p.m.

Yale is in a four-way tie for first place in the Ivy League. Cornell, Harvard and Pennsylvania are also 3-1.

Junior Ryan LoProto (Marrero, LA) had two interception returns for touchdowns against Columbia. His first one was a 67-yard return midway through the third quarter, and he added a 17-yard return early in the fourth quarter. For his efforts he was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Game and the Ivy League Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Despite gusty winds, junior Peter Lee (Chicago, IL) completed 15-of-20 passes for 164 yards and four touchdowns, including three to senior Eric Johnson (Needham, MA).


Men's Golf (0-0, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 23-24 -- 21st at VCU Invitational (621)

Next: Nov. 6-7 at Desert Willow Invitational (Palm Springs, CA)

Junior Adam Cyrus (Huntington, WV) was Yale's medalist at the VCU Invitational. He had a two-round score of 151.


Women's Golf (0-0, 0-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 23-24 -- 2nd at ECAC Championships (621)

This Week: Fall Season Complete

Junior Sarah Seo (Lima, OH) finished in a tie for second place at the ECAC Championship with a two-round score of 148. Hartford's Katrina Lekovic claimed individual medalist honors by defeating Seo and Brown's Tara Fiscella in a playoff.


Men's Soccer (7-6-1, 3-2-0 Ivy)

Last Week: Oct. 28 -- Yale 1, Columbia 0

This Week: Nov. 1 vs. Hofstra, 7 p.m, Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium

Nov. 5 at Brown, 1 p.m.

Sophomore Stuart Yingst (Grosse Pointe, MI) scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute against Columbia. Yingst, who is second on the team in scoring with 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists), has three goals in his last two games.

Senior Danny Moss (Arlington, VA) made six saves to post his third shutout of the season against Columbia. Moss has a 0.73 goals against average.

Ten of the Bulldogs' 14 games have been decided by one goal, and they are 5-5 in those games. Yale also has played one tie.


Women's Soccer (9-6-1, 3-3-0 Ivy)

This Week: Nov. 5 at Brown, 4 p.m.

Senior Jennifer Wideberg (Randolph, NJ) scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute in the Bulldogs' win over Columbia. Junior Sara Ruiz (Davis, CA) had Yale's first goal.

This Week: Nov. 3 vs. Stony Brook, 7 p.m., John J. Lee Amphitheater

Sophomore Dana Loberg (Los Angeles, CA) posted the first and second double-doubles of her career against Harvard and Dartmouth. Against Harvard she had a career-high 13 kills and 13 digs, and against Dartmouth she added 11 kills and 11 digs.

The Bulldogs have won four of their last five matches and are 7-1 in the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
