An exhibition of the current work of the internationally acclaimed architect and designer Zaha Hadid will be on view March 25-May 10 at the Art & Architecture Gallery of the School of Architecture, 180 York St.
The London-based, Iraqi-born architect is renowned for her experimental designs and use of unusual geometric shapes to integrate her constructions with their urban environment. Her work has been described as bold and innovative, as exemplified by the Vitra Fire Station and Land Formation One in Germany, and the Mind Zone of the Millennium Dome in London.
Among her many works that have won international design competitions are The Peak in Hong Kong, Cardiff Bay Opera House in Wales and the Rosenthal Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is now under construction.
This term Hadid is teaching a master studio class at the School of Architecture as the Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor, a post she held two years ago. Students in her current class are working on designs for a vast office building complex at the World Trade Center site.
Titled "Zaha Hadid Laboratory," the exhibition highlights Hadid's most recent projects in Europe, North America and Asia. It will include an array of drawings, colorful field paintings, models and three-dimensional computer images and animations.
Hadid will give a gallery talk about her current work on Thursday, April 4, at 6.30 p.m. in the gallery. The talk is free and open to the public.
Hours for the gallery are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday. For more information contact the School of Architecture by calling (203) 432-2288, or visit the school's website at www.architecture.yale.edu.
