Memorial Services: Charles L. Black Jr. and Richard F. French
Memorial services for two Yale faculty members will take place this coming week.
A service in memory of Charles L. Black Jr., Sterling Professor Emeritus of Law, will be held in New York City at St. Paul's Chapel on the Columbia University campus (Amsterdam Avenue at West 117th Street) on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. Black, a leading scholar of constitutional law who influenced national policy on such issues as desegregation, presidential impeachment and the death penalty, died on May 5. He was 85.
A memorial service for Richard F. French, professor emeritus at the School of Music and the Institute of Sacred Music, will take place on Monday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. in Battell Chapel, corner of College and Elm streets. French, an eminent musicologist with an expansive range of musical knowledge and expertise, died on May 18 at the age of 85.
