The Selected Poems and Related Prose of F.T. Marinetti
Luce Marinetti, Elizabeth R. Napier, Barbara R. Studholme and Paolo Valesio, professor of Italian language and literature
(Yale University Press)

Paolo Valesio contributed an essay to this new volume, a translation of more than 40 poems and prose works by F.T. Marinetti (1876-1944), who is widely known as the founder of Futurism, an early 20th-century cultural revolution. Representing the entire span of the poet's career, the book includes Marinetti's early lyrical works, poems of battle, "Words in Freedom" and love poems to his wife. Many of these works are appearing for the first time in English in this book. Collaborator Luce Marinetti, of Rome, is the poet's daughter. Elizabeth Napier and Barbara R. Studholme translated Marinetti's writings from French.

Settantacinque Anni di SIAD/SIAD at Seventy Five
Joseph LaPalombara, the Arnold Wolfers Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Management
(Bergama: Bolis Poligrafico, 2002)

In this illustrated volume, written in both Italian and English, Joseph LaPalombara looks at Italy's transformation over the last half-century from a country in the ruins of Fascism to the world's sixth largest economy. The achievement, according to LaPalombara, is all the more extraordinary given the paucity of large-scale Italian industrial and service enterprises. The primary impetus to this economic development has come from thousands of family-owned, small- and medium-sized firms. Together, these enterprises constitute the backbone of a vibrant Italian economy, says LaPalombara. He looks at this development in microcosm, from the vantage point of a medium-size firm that has been controlled and managed by the same family for almost four generations. The Sestini family has turned its state-of-the-art firm into a multinational corporation, with direct investments in eight countries outside of Italy, as well as a commercial presence as far away as China and elsewhere in Asia.

The Making of America: The History of the United States from 1492 to the Present
Robert D. Johnston, associate professor of history and American studies
(National Geographic)

This volume -- which includes a foreword by First Lady Laura Bush -- is a comprehensive history of the United States from the first contact of Europeans with Native Americans in 1492 to current events in the 21st century. Major eras and social movements unfold chronologically in the book, which is designed to appeal to today's visually oriented children. Each chapter includes biographies of two key people and a "Great Debate" focusing on some heated issue of that era and an explanation of its relevance today. Throughout the book, the roles and accomplishments of men and women of various racial and ethnic backgrounds are represented. Period art and photography help bring people and events to life, while specially designed maps help children follow the growth of the nation. The book also includes time lines, historic documents and speeches, a guide to historic sites, a list of presidents, statehood dates, a detailed index and additional resources.
