YaleGlobal marks one-year anniversary
In one short year, YaleGlobal Online (http://yaleglobal.yale.edu), the flagship publication of the University's Center for the Study of Globalization, has already made a name for itself in foreign policy circles.
Described as "the world's best website on globalization'" by Foreign Policy magazine editor Moises Naim, YaleGlobal has published 134 original articles over the past year on all aspects of globalization, ranging from environmental issues to nuclear weapons proliferation. Its articles have been reprinted over 260 times in publications across the globe, including the International Herald Tribune, El Pais (Spain), the Khaleej Times (Dubai) and the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong).
"Traffic on the website has continually increased since our launch one year ago on November 19," says Nayan Chanda, the magazine's editor and director of publications for the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. "So far we have recorded over six million hits in the past six months alone from 120 countries."
One of those visitors was New York Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas Friedman who praised YaleGlobal as being "full of valuable nuggets" in a recent column.
"This year, we are focused on reaching out to a broader audience," says Chanda. "We have begun translating articles of special significance into languages other than English."
According to Chanda, some articles have already appeared in Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese language newspapers, and during the anniversary week, his essay on globalization will be published in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. "Our presentations and scholarly articles are also being used in classrooms of several universities," he adds.
"We are continuing to develop an extensive archive of academic papers, book excerpts and book reviews that we think will be a valuable resource for the government officials, academics, journalists and others who visit our site and are interested in exploring the implications of the growing interconnectedness of the world," continues Chanda. "This unique site is helping to promote Yale as a global university both here in the United States and across the globe."
