New SOM advisory board will discuss the school's mission and goals
Newly appointed members of the Yale School of Management's (SOM) board of advisers will gather on campus on Tuesday, Feb. 3, to meet with students and faculty and learn more about the school's mission and challenges.
The board is composed of 40 prominent executives, including 21 SOM graduates and 14 Yale College alumni. Linda A. Mason (SOM '80), chair and founder of Bright Horizons Family Solutions, and Fellow of the Yale Corporation, is chair of the board.
SOM Dean Jeffrey E. Garten said: "One of the most rewarding and positive experiences in my eight years as dean of the Yale School of Management has been the creation of the new board of advisers. This distinguished group of leaders from the private, public and non-profit sectors all share at least one thing in common -- their desire to see the school realize its full potential in its mission 'to educate leaders for business and society.'"
The new board is charged with two primary responsibilities. First, it will help faculty and staff develop and refine the vision and strategic plans of SOM in its efforts to become recognized as one of the premier business schools in the world, while remaining true to its founding principles. Second, it will provide -- and help raise from others -- the resources necessary to achieve the school's goals.
According to Garten, the agenda of the board's inaugural meeting on Feb. 3 will include reconfirming the mission of the school, and identifying and discussing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Discussion topics will include the future scope and scale of the school, its current facilities and opportunities to develop areas of excellence in teaching, research and outreach.
