Philip Rubin has been appointed chief operating officer at Haskins Laboratories, a Yale-affiliated research institute whose primary focus is on the biological bases of speech and language. He is also adjunct professor in the Department of Surgery, Otolaryngology, at the School of Medicine and a research affiliate in the Department of Psychology. Rubin has recently completed a four-year term as director of the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Virginia, where he was responsible for a wide variety of fields including archaeology, cultural and physical anthropology, child development, cognitive neuroscience, linguistics and psychology.
William F. Dow III, tutor in clinical studies at the Law School, will discuss Michael Lewis's book "Moneyball: The Unfair Game," at a "Books Sandwiched In" discussion on Thursday, March 18. Sponsored by the New Haven Free Public Library, the talk will take place noon-1 p.m. in the community program room at the library.
