Yale affiliates abroad can get aid from international travel assistance program
Just in time for spring break, here's a reminder to those members of the Yale community who may be on the road during the next few weeks:
Yale provides at no cost to all students, faculty and staff a travel assistance program called MEDEX.
MEDEX is an international travel assistance program that provides aid in many areas, including emergency evacuation and repatriation.
If Yale community members are involved in an accident or suffer a sudden illness requiring emergency medical services while traveling outside their country of residence, and if adequate medical facilities are not available, MEDEX will arrange and pay for emergency evacuation to the nearest facility determined to be capable of providing appropriate care.
The key to accessing this service is the MEDEX identification card. In the event of an injury, illness, hospitalization or any travel-related emergency, Yale travelers can call MEDEX at the toll-free numbers listed on the identification card 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
MEDEX identification cards and Program Description Guides listing the full range of services, coverage terms and program exclusions are available by calling the Office of Risk Management at (203) 432-8258; Yale University Travel at (203) 432-9962; or the Yale Travel Clinic at (203) 688-2476. Yale community members are urged to acquaint themselves with the coverage terms and conditions prior to beginning their travels.
A complete list of benefits can be found at: www.yale.edu/finance/controller/riskman/programs.html.
For additional information about the program, call the Office of Risk Management at (203) 432-8258 or visit MEDEX's website at www.medexassist.com/index.html.
