Levin announces appointments
of department chairs

President Richard C. Levin announced the following appointments to department chairmanships:

Jeffrey Alexander, professor of sociology, as chair of the Department of Sociology for another year; John Matthews, the John M. Schiff Professor of Classics and History, as chair of the Department of Classics for another year; Giuseppe Mazzotta, the Sterling Professor of Italian Language and Literature, as chair of the Department of Italian Language and Literature for another year; and Thomas Pollard, the Eugene Higgins Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB), as chair of MCDB for three years, beginning July 1.

Levin also announced the reappointment of Michael Della Rocca, professor of philosophy, as chair of the Department of Philosophy for three years, beginning July 1; during Della Rocca's leave of absence in the fall, Karsten Harries, professor of philosophy, will serve as acting chair of the department.
