Andrew Rodriguez, age 12, and Corey Moore, age 8, of the MicroSociety Magnet School in New Haven used a solar cell to power a toy carousel in their entry for the annual citywide science fair, just one of several events that brought city schoolchildren to campus during spring break.

They came ... they saw ... they learned

While Yale students were on spring break, the University played host to thousands of New Haven schoolchildren who were taking part in a variety of programs

The "Will Power!" program, sponsored by the Yale Repertory Theatre and the School of Drama, brought middle and high school students to campus the week of March 8 to attend performances of "King Lear." After the shows, the students had the opportunity to talk with members of the cast and technical crew.

The Peabody Museum of Natural History's annual Paleo-Knowledge Bowl, held March 13 and 14, brought teams of 4th-, 5th- and 6th-graders together to compete while demonstrating their knowledge of The Age of Dinosaurs.

On March 3, Connecticut United for Research Excellence and Yale launched the Connecticut BioBus Honors Program at Yale University. Medical students led tours of the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library and a variety of research laboratories at the Anlyan Research Center, where participants learned about magnetic resonance images, the physiology of taste, the role of genetics in disease, the role of radiology in medicine, neurological research, and other current topics in bioscience research.
