Meritorious service
Bruce Ackerman, Sterling Professor of Law and professor of political science, received the Insignia of Commander of the French Order of Merit in a March 1 ceremony on campus. The award was presented by Noelle Lenoir, France's minister for European affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The French National Order of Merit -- established by former French president General Charles de Gaulle and given at the discretion of the French president --rewards distinguished merit in a public post, civilian or military, or in the exercise of private activity. Ackerman was honored for his scholarship in political science, history and constitutional law.
